PROGRAMS & SERVICES:
We provide peer support groups for children/teens from 3-18 years of age and their families. Participants meet others who also have experienced the death of a parent, primary caretaker, brother, sister or teen friend because of illness, accident, suicide or homicide.
Some families contact us immediately after a death, while others come to us years later. We welcome families at any time they are ready to access our services.
Children are grouped together by age categories (refer to the “schedule” section for details). During the twice a month, 90 minute session, the children participate in “talking time”. This is an activity driven opportunity for the children to discuss grief related topics. Afterwards, they can express their feelings and thoughts through play activities in the art room, play room, game room, dress up room, the volcano room, or outside.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend one of the adult groups that meet concurrently with the children’s groups. The parent must stay on the premises while their children are participating.
We provide no private therapy or counseling. All groups are facilitated by trained volunteers who are in turn coordinated by the professional staff of the Suncoast Kid’s Place.
SKP Young Adult Program We have expanded our program to reach out to young adults ages 18 - 30 Years old and their families.
